Ashtanga (Power) Yoga
This is the most athletic and physically demanding form of Yoga and is the basis for “Power” or “Dynamic” Yoga. The foundation of this ancient system, discovered by the late Sri T. Krishnamacharya and his disciple K. Pattabhi Jois in the 1930’s, involves a series of set postures practiced in sequence (vinyasa) known as the Primary Series. Despite its emphasis on the physical asanas, the breath is still the main focus of Ashtanga Yoga, and the practice leaves the student with a profound sense of mental and physical well-being.
It is recommended that those who are new to Yoga begin with the practice of Hatha for atleast three months as this will give them a good foundation for the practice of Ashtanga.
