Breathing & Meditation

Mastery of breath brings perfection in Yoga and is of great practical value in all aspects of life. Breathing practices in yoga are called Pranayama. Prana means ‘life force’, and ayama means ‘control’. Pranayama is therfore mastering the life force that is within us. Prana when consciously controlled, not only vitalizes and regenerates the body, but also calms the mind.

Meditation has been known to have tremendous health benefits of increased vitality and energy. Research shows that meditation also increases levles of melatonin, an important hormone that supports the immune system, promotes deep & restful sleep, slows cell damage and the aeging process, and may even inhibit the growth of cancer cells.

Regular meditation can also have a significant impact on reducing blood pressure. During Meditation, the person’s breathing slows down and hence his body metabolism, heart beat and blood flow. One feels a tremendous feeling of peace, well-being and contentment and stress hormones are dramatically reduced.
